Another day of sailing to Otter Cove. It was tricky getting and we always follow Bonnie Dahl’s advice so we arrived safely. A beautiful spot, well worth the fact that we had spotters on both the bow and stern while motoring through the channel. At one point the depth was 6’2”; our boat’s keel is at 6’.
The anchorage is perfect and I think I even spotted 2 otters welcoming us to their cove. There was an evening rain but no rainbow.
Even though it rained quite a lot during the night, the morning was still and the day was gorgeous. We went for a dinghy ride down the arm of the river and then hiked over to a waterfall and then another hike to the lake that feeds the falls. We were only wearing our boat boots so hiking was a bit of a challenge, but we made it. The water was probably warm enough to swim in but we didn’t have our suits with us. On the way back we came across a moose pasture that revealed moose tracks but no moose. We then took the dinghy over to another little river where there were bald eagles, hawks and baby loons. Unfortunately, our camera battery had died and so no pictures.
Around 4 p.m., Frank just jumps into the water>(62.8 F). Not to be outdone, Mike jumped in after him. Mike didn’t stay in but Frank did for quite awhile. Probably the first and last swim in Superior. It has just been too cold.
I think this was one of our nicest days at anchor.
